Life’s A Bargain’s Christmas Tree – New Hampshire!

Here we are right smack dab in the middle of New England – surrounded by mountains and trees – Christmas Tree farms everywhere! Yet, we decided to put up our old trusty Bethlehem Lights Christmas Tree. It’s a 6 1/2 foot tall beauty, pre-lit for our laziness. It’s not very exciting – but it does the trick.

The Real Deal

I remember growing up and having a real Christmas Tree in the house each year. If we wanted to go, my dad would take us kids out to get the tree. With wood paneling running down the sides and snow piled high on the roof, my dad would fire up the 1980’s Dodge Caravan and away we would go. Sometimes we’d travel what seemed like forever – sometimes it was just up the street. Sometimes we went to a Christmas Tree Farm to cut down our own tree and sometimes it was to the center of town to the place that sold pre-cut Christmas Trees. Either way, we always had a real tree strung with lights and covered with ornaments standing tall in our living room.

Charlie Brown Tree!

One year my dad even took it upon himself to harvest a tree from the woods behind our house. It only had about 10 branches on it – and it was the Charliest of Charlie Brown Trees. Nevertheless, we always had a real Christmas Tree – Charlie Brownish (sometimes) but always ours. The aroma of a freshly cut Christmas Tree – there’s nothing like it!

What a Mess!

But like so many, I grew up and moved into my own place (a condo) and lived in a condo, for years. The ‘real tree’ business was just too much – lugging it up and down the stairs, then vacuuming up all the pine needles in the common areas – all while dodging nosy neighbors. Well, lets just say that wasn’t my thing.

Faking It!

We bought and moved into our first house a few months ago. It’s our first Christmas in our new house, and our first Christmas with our new Cat(Who knew how he would react to a tree in the house!). We decided we needed to get 1 more year out of this old Bethlehem beauty before going all out and getting a real Christmas Tree. So, this is our Christmas Tree, a nice perfectly sculpted fake tree!

PS: The cat looked at the tree…looked at us like we are crazy and carried on. He hasn’t touched it! Yay!

Christmas Tree

I apologize for this next photo – my camera doesn’t like the bright sun and the natural light in the living room. (lol) But, I had to show you the irony of having a fake tree all while overlooking the expansive evergreen landscape of the New Hampshire mountains…
